"Do schools kill creativity?" Master your English #1



It can be a good exercise on listening and vocabulary. Ted talks have wide range of topics, so you'll certainly find something for you. This is a talk that can interest nearly everybody - at last we all attended schools. If you have some time, I encourage you to watch it. I've prepared a short list of useful vocabulary for this video. You can translate also other ones that you have problems with and add them to your daily plan of learning:


  1. play out - develop in a particular way; happen, take place
  2. frankly -in an open, honest, and direct manner
  3.  pin (v) - attach or fasten with a pin or pins
  4. tremendous -very great in amount, scale, or intensity
  5. squander - waste in a reckless or foolish manner (e.g time, money)
  6. contention - dissagrement, an assertion
  7. frankincense - an aromatic gum resin obtained from an African tree and burnt as incense
  8. seamless - smooth and without seams
  9. transition -the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another
  10. anniversary - the date on which an event took place or an institution was founded in a previous year
  11. disembodied - separated from or existing without the body; (of a sound) lacking any obvious physical source
  12. a raft of - a large amount of something
  13. fidget - make small movements, especially of the hands and feet, through nervousness or impatience
